RESUMO

The foot of the diabetic patient is exposed to develop potentially serious trophic disorders that can lead to amputation. This risk is favoured by the conjunction of neurological, arterial and infectious complications. The frequency of these complications is very high. This makes the early detection of patients with podological risk, of crucial importance. Prevention in these particularly exposed patients should be carried on through education and a specialized follow-up

RESUMO

The utilization of iodine 131 in the treatment of hyperthyroidis remains very restricted when compared to the other means of therapy. The main of this retrospective study is to analyse indications and results obtained in 20 patients who underwent iodine therapy after hospitalisation in the service of Endocrinology and metabolic disease CHU Ibn Rochd Casablanca during 6 years. Patients were aged 28 to 65years. Female predominance [M F = 4: 16] was noted. Hyperthyroidism was related to nodules in 2 cases and to Graves' Disease in 18 cases. Cardiothyreosis was present in 3 cases. Ocular symptoms were discrete. There was no diagnostic prticularity. Thyroid uptake was measured in 5 cases. The choice of treatment depended Upon thyrotoxicosis Severity, Cardiac impairement, disease evolution and patient age desires and abilities. Iodine 131 was prescrited first in 2 cases, after drug treatment failure in 15 cases and in 2 cases medical treatment could not be continuted. Relapse after surgical treatment for Graves' Disease justified Iodine therapy in one case. Treatment required 1 dose of iodine in 17 cases, 2 doses, and 3 doses in one case. After a period of 3 to 9 years, euthyroidism was noted in 11 cases, hyperthyroidism is 2 case, and reccurence in 4 case. Three patients were not seen for evaluation. So, reccurence rate [20%] is relatively high. Low occureuce of Hypothyroidism [10%] after Iodine 131 therapy can be related to the shortness of the follow up period. There was no case of serious adverse event, after this treatment easy to take and not expensive when compared to other means of treatment. Availability of specialized institutions would improve dosimetry and results and alow to treat more people
